Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)
Roe are the smallest deer native to Britain and are widespread throughout most of the UK. They are a very adaptable species and can be found living over a variety of habitats, from dense lowland woodland to open hill.
The Roe is very well regarded by sportsmen and trophy bucks are highly prized. Stalking the Roe buck on a summer's morning and witnessing the first birdsong of the day is a rewarding experience, though only for the deer stalker prepared to go out very early.
Roe doe stalking during the short days of winter can come with its own challenges, but provides excellent sporting experiences for the dedicated hunter.
